FOSS Workshop @ Shaastra 2008 - Tentative Plans

This page is for the organizers to plan the event. None of the information put up here is finalized.

Aim of the event

As FOSS solutions become more and more important in the enterprise and FOSS developers are in demand, we wish to have a event related to Free and Open Source Software @ Shaastra 2008.

Duration of the event

The event will consist of a workshop and a hackfest. While we plan to have talks by Developers during the workshop. Hackfest will be spread over all 4 days and will try to create a good application.

FOSS Conference

We intend to have a FOSS Developers' Conference. 6 hours, 4 talks.

1. Shreyas + Arun: Contributing for newbies, on the line of "User to Hacker in 90 minutes" @ FOSS.IN 2007 2. Sudharshan: The Freesmartphone.org project.

Expected Turnout:


100 ~ 160 participants.

Audience Prerequisites:


  • Enthusiastic about FOSS development
  • Familiar with the FOSS concept
  • Familiar with the use of a typical desktop environment + command line

= The KDE.IN Autumn hacKathon 2008

Event plan:


  • Introduce the KDE Kodebase in general, Qt fundamentals in a quick talk
  • Demo the various appliKations being hacKed.
  • Split the enthusiasts into groups and introduce the kodebase of individual apps
  • hacK away.

Event Plan:


  • Introduce the Codebase in general - libraries like GTK+, pyGTK, Clutter etc.
  • Demo the various apps being hacked
  • Split into groups of interested hackers and developer gives an introduction to the codebase of particular app.
